Matt, you make a very good point, and re-reading that line I now realise that I sound far more dismissive of Tim's original allegations than I meant too. Certainly I agree that image theft and bandwidth leeching are wrong, and I wholly supported Tim in his initial points, but it was Guido's reaction in issuing legal threats that really struck me as outrageous.

But then I’m not a professional artist, and so while I wholeheartedly sympathise with your position I suppose I am unable to fully appreciate what it must be like to be in your shoes; certainly as a 100% amateur on this blog I don’t really give a damn who takes what from here. I can though more easily empathise with someone getting a threatening letter as a result of something they have written, and so it was that element that struck me with far more force.

So, I guess all of the above means that in all honesty it is strictly true to say that I find Tim’s original allegations to be the least interesting aspect of the whole affair, but that doesn’t mean that they are of no interest, or that they are not important issues, and I apologise if I cack-handedly gave you that impression.

Hello Quinn,
I enjoyed your post on this - and only one quibble with it. I am going to quote you back at youself - sorry.

> I’m not bothering to repeat them here because they are the least interesting facet of the affair.

I'm not sure about this assertion myself because some of the things which are happening regarding the free and easy use of people's images digitally have a direct effect on the economic livelihoods of people who actually make images for a living. I am, of course, biased, as I do this. I will be writing, or trying to, about the economic consequences of free digital ditribution before, perhaps, the idea of paid image makers dies out.
Regards,
Matt Buck

Oh, if more people read this stuff I would probably become too self-conscious to write anything again. But thanks for your kind comment.
